Excellent tool to be ready for the exam. An enormous THANKS.
Question 15: Your BCBA determined that attention is maintaining Ethan’s aggressive behavior. What would extinction look like in this scenario?
The answer is marked “all of the above,” however two of the options are:
– “Withholding attention while Ethan engages in aggressive behavior”
and
– “Giving Ethan attention no matter what behavior he is engaging in”
Given Ethan attention “no matter what behavior he is engaging in” would include aggressive behavior, so the answers are contradictory. You cannot withhold attention if you are giving him attention.
Since attention is the identified reinforcer for Ethan’s aggression, extinction would involve no longer providing attention (like eye contact, talking, or reactions) when the aggressive behavior occurs. This helps to break the reinforcement cycle and reduce the behavior over time.
It is a very useful tool to help prepare for the real exam. I learned a lot, thank you very much!
Can you explain the question about “the purpose of a preference assessment”? I answered “To identify items and activities that are reinforcing to an individual”, but it says the correct response is “To identify items and activities that an individual likes.” I was taught during my initial training that “likes” isn’t really an objective term (we say in our session notes that they “prefer” an item rather than they “like” it), and that specifically we use preference assessments to determine potential reinforcers.
You’re absolutely right. A preference assessment helps determine which items or activities may serve as effective reinforcers—meaning they increase the likelihood of a behavior occurring again. It’s more than just identifying likes; it’s about finding what actually motivates behavior.
It was a typing mistake and new we resolved it. Thank you so much for contribution to make our test more accurate. This website is made to help RBTs fully prepared before the actual exam.
