People sometimes react with physical aggression and property destruction when they are presented with demands or are pursued for compliance. In such situations doing this is likely to reduce many severe episodes in an emergency situation.

Stimulus changes that occur right after a behavior are referred to as:

With _ _ _, if the problem behavior did not occur during a predetermined time interval, a reinforcer is delivered; any instance of the problem behavior during that interval resets the interval and postpones reinforcement.

Thomas hits his peers at pre-school to get their attention. His team implements a procedure where everyone limits attention toward Kevin when he hits his peers. Instead, he receives verbal praise when engaging in behaviors that keep his hands busy. Clapping, playing with legos, etc. What type of procedure does this entail?

During _ _ _ a behavior that is both desirable and topographically incompatible with the target behavior is reinforced.

During _ _ _ stimuli are modified or manipulated so the desired behavior has a higher provability to occur and the contrary for undesired behaviors.

When using extinction, you:

Fixed Ratio 1 (FR1) is mainly used to _ _ _ and it is the same as _ _ _

  1. Hi,

Thank you so much for offering the test. May I ask why is the answer for Question 6 is Decrease (remove) demands instead of Emergency (crisis) strategies? Your explanation is much appreciated.

    6. People sometimes react with physical aggression and property destruction when they are presented with demands or are pursued for compliance. In such situations doing this is likely to reduce many severe episodes in an emergency situation.

    Decrease (remove) demands
    Emergency (crisis) strategies
Reset the interval (stop and reset)
    New or novel

    Reply
    • When someone becomes aggressive or destructive in response to demands, temporarily removing or decreasing the demands can help de-escalate the situation. This is a common crisis strategy used to prevent injury and reduce the severity of the episode in the moment.

  2. Thank you for providing these tests.

For question 46, the wording of the question, particularly where it reads “[…] to prevent this behavior,” suggests that an antecedent strategy be employed (e.g. removing toys from the room) in order to eliminate the opportunity for the targeted response to occur before the antecedent is presented — that is, the instruction to transition to another activity.

I would have chosen “using positive reinforcement for appropriate transitions” because, frankly, a room void of anything with which the client could interact seems counterproductive; however, I was unsure whether the goal of preventing the behavior indicated that the intervention should occur before the response. Otherwise, this procedure seems more akin to a DRI protocol, where appropriate behaviors incompatible with throwing toys are reinforced after the client engages in an appropriate transition.

Perhaps I am analyzing the use of the verb “to prevent” too stringently.

    Thank you!

  3. Additionally, the correct answer to the question “fixed Ratio 1 (FR1) is mainly used to _ _ _ and it is the same as _ _ _” was problematic for me because it is my understanding that continuous reinforcement is an equally effective schedule for strengthening WEAK behaviors and for teaching NEW behaviors.

As I analyze the wording, I am unsure of how a new behavior can be strengthened if it has not first been taught.

It seems that, technically, no answer is correct as answer C (the “correct” answer) reads “Strengthen NEW Behaviors; Continuous Reinforcement” and answer D reads “Teach new Behaviors; Continuous MEASUREMENT.”

    Again, I may be overthinking.

    Thank you!

    • Fixed Ratio 1 (FR1) means every correct response is reinforced, which is also known as continuous reinforcement. This schedule is mainly used to teach or strengthen new behaviors, as it provides consistent reinforcement that helps the learner make the connection between the behavior and the consequence.
